Visit to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park

As part of the Arts Award, thirty Year 9 students had the opportunity to visit the Yorkshire Sculpture
Park in Wakefield.

The Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) is the leading international centre for modern and
contemporary sculpture which celebrated its 45th anniversary in 2022. Founded in 1977 by Sir Peter
Murray CBE, YSP was the first sculpture park in the UK, and is the largest of its kind in Europe.

Our students participated in a “Walk, Talk and Make” session, where they worked with an artist looking and talking about a range of different sculptures. They made drawings in different ways and with a variety of media as well as working three dimensionally. We were very lucky to have beautiful weather, as most of the day was spent outside in the Park. The students are going to use this experience to write a review for their Art Award portfolio and then to share their thoughts about the event with others.

The students had a fantastic day. For most it was the first time that they had seen art artwork first hand, rather than photographs in books or online. The students were excellent and a credit to Woodbrook Vale.
