Health and Social Care

The Health and Social Care curriculum aims to give students an understanding of the skills, knowledge and personal qualities required to work in a range of care settings. Students learn how individuals grow and develop through life stages, how different factors influence health and wellbeing and the importance of care values in practice. The course also encourages students to reflect on how services support people’s needs and prepares them to apply knowledge to real-life scenarios, fostering empathy and respect for others.

At Key Stage 4, we follow the Pearson BTEC Tech Award in Health and Social Care. The course is made up of three components: Human Lifespan Development, Health and Social Care Services and Values, and Health and Wellbeing. Two of the components are assessed through internally set coursework, while the final component is externally assessed through examination. This balance enables students to develop both academic and practical problem-solving skills and provides an excellent foundation for further study or future careers in the sector.

Travel and Tourism

The Travel and Tourism curriculum provides students with the opportunity to explore one of the world’s fastest growing industries. Students gain an understanding of the importance of the sector to the UK and global economy and examine how organisations meet the needs of different types of customers. The course also develops key employability skills, including communication, research, decision-making and evaluation, preparing students for progression into further study or work.

At Key Stage 4, we follow the Pearson BTEC Tech Award in Travel and Tourism. The course consists of three components: Travel and Tourism Organisations and Destinations, Customer Needs in Travel and Tourism, and Influences on Global Travel and Tourism. Assessment is a mixture of internally assessed coursework and an externally assessed exam. This combination ensures students can demonstrate their knowledge in different ways, developing both practical and analytical skills that are highly valued in education and the workplace.
